The Austwell Tivoli ISD school counselor would like to welcome you to this site, and invites anyone to access its contents to learn more about the K-12 comprehensive school counseling program of the district.Mission StatementThe mission of the Austwell-Tivoli ISD School Counseling Program is to empower all students to reach their highest potential, by providing a comprehensive school counseling program that can support students’ academic, career, personal, and social development. This program is guided by the American School Counselor Association’s National Model and the Texas Developmental Guidance Model. The ultimate goal of the A-T ISD Counseling Program is to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators, and other vested community stakeholders in an effort to help students recognize their interests, abilities, strengths, and potential for success. To meet this goal the A-T ISD counseling program is built to give students relevant skills in; appropriate social interactions, appropriate self-expression, decision making, academic planning, goal setting, career planning, conflict resolution, and other skills that can help them effectively deal with challenges in their life and obtain positive academic and life outcomes through growth.Vision StatementThe Austwell-Tivoli ISD Counseling Program has a vision that all students will obtain the academic, career, personal, and social skills/knowledge they need to reach their highest potential, which will allow them to successfully grow into positive productive citizens who are capable of finding success in today's globalizing world.Philosophy StatementThe Austwell-Tivoli ISD school counselor believes that:-all students posses dignity, pride, and worth and deserve to have access to Austwell-Tivoli ISD's comprehensive school program.-all students have a right to have their culture, race, special needs, and dfferences taken into consideration when the counseling program's structures and activities are being built, shaped, maintained, and put in place.-all students deserve a safe and open learning environment, and the school counseling program is a vital part in creating this atmosphere.-all students deserve a variety of data driven services that will help them reach their highest potential to succeed in school and life.-all students deserve a flexible comprehensive data driven counseling program, that is tailored to the school's mission and the diverse learners within the school's walls.-through a variety of diverse experiences students are able to gain appropriate cognitive skills, social skills, and personal skills that will allow them to develop appropriately in school.-in order for students to find success after their primary school experience, they need to gain appropriate and relevant social skills, interpersonal skills, intrapersonal skills, decision making skills, goal setting skills, academic planning skills, and career planning skills.-an effective comprehensive school counseling program relies on a collaborative effort between counselors, students, teachers, community members, and administrators.-the Counseling Advisory Committee is a vital aspect of drafting, maintaining, and enacting a comprehensive school counseling program that is transparent and effective.-the counselor's actions should align with the American Counseling Association and American School Counselor Association's ethical codes.-within a comprehensive school counseling program a school counselor actively advocates to remove barriers that exist that can hamper students' abilities to succeed in school and the world that awaits them.Counselor's Role
In following through on the above beliefs, the counselor of Austwell-Tivoli will enact several roles in odred to effectively aid all students in their academic, career, personal, and social development within the school's mission. These roles are as follows:-The School Counselor as Educator: The school counselor will plan, develop, and directly implement guidance lessons that meet the needs of all students, and aid teachers in integrating this curriculum within their academic lessons.-The School Counselor as Facilitator: The school counselor will work with teachers, administrators, parents, community members, community organizations, and surrounding resources to ensure all students have access to the supports and enhanced learning opportunities they need to develop in a positive manner.-The School Counselor as Manager: The School counselor will collect and use data to build, maintain, measure, monitor, adjust, and implement programs and systems within Austwell-Tivoli ISD that will aid all students in their development in school.-The School Counselor as Support Structure: The school counselor will use his expertise to work with all vested stakeholders in school to find effective and relevant means to reach all students so they have the opportunity at a full and meaningful education.-The School Counselor as Responder: The school counselor will seek to provide services to students based on immediate needs individuals may have that can impede their development in school. In seeking to enact this role the counselor will provide responsive services within his professional competence, and refer students and families to appropriate outside sources when such help is needed.-The School Counselor as Advocate: The school counselor will seek to appropriately work within the structure of his school, state, and national government to remove barriers that are negatively impacting individual students and populations of students within his school.-The School Counselor as Leader: The school counselor will carry himself in a manner that is fitting of the counseling profession. He will follow the ethical codes of the counseling profession (ACA and ASCA) and work in a professional manner within the school and his personal life.
